Baby Spirals Beanie

Materials
- 5.5 mm crochet hook (I)
- ~60-115 yards US worsted weight yarn
- Suggested yarn: Malabrigo Rios; Cascade 220
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
Gauge
- 4 sts and 4 rows of sc = a little over 1 inch x 1 inch
- Change hook size to obtain gauge
Sizing
- 0-3 mos (3-6 mos, 6-12 mos, 12 mos-3 years, 3 years-teen)
- 13-15″ (15-16.5, 16-17.5″, 17-18.5″, 19-20″)
Abbreviations
- ch – chain
- sts – stitches
- ss – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- blo – back loop only
Crown Instructions
Create a Magic Loop and sc 6 into said loop (6 sts)
From here on out you will be working in the back loop only. Also, you will be working in continuous rounds. DO NOT join. Feel free to use a stitch marker for easier counting.
Row 1: *2 sc in each stitch; repeat from * (12 sts)
Row 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (18 sts)
Row 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (24 sts)
Row 4: *3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (30 sts)
Row 5: *4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (36 sts)
Row 6: *5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (42 sts)
Row 7: *6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (48 sts) – Stop here for 0-3 mos and go to the hat instructions below
Row 8: *7 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (54 sts) – Stop here for 3-6 mos and go to the hat instructions below
Row 9: *8 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (60 sts) – Stop here for 6-12 mos and go to the hat instructions below
Row 10: *9 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (66 sts) – Stop here for 12 mos – 3 years and go to the hat instructions below
Row 11: *10 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (72 sts) – Stop here for 3 years to preteen and go to the hat instructions below

Hat Instructions
At this point you do not need to mark the beginning of the rounds; continue to sc in the blo for approximately 2 3/4″ (3 1/4″, 3 1/2″, 4″, 4 1/4″). This measurement is from the outer edge of the crown. Once you have reached the measurment listed above you will start the brim of the hat. Continue in the round with a ss in the blo for approximately half an inch. Make sure you do not slip stitch tightly. (You don’t want the hat to be too tight on baby’s head!) It may help to go up a hook size or two. Fasten off and weave in the ends!
