Spring Spirals Beanie
(More pictures at the bottom of the post.)
Materials
- 5.5 mm crochet hook
- ~105-115 yards worsted weight yarn
- Suggested yarn: Malabrigo Rios
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle
Gauge
- 4 sts and 4 rows of sc = 1.25 inches x 1 inch
- Result: 20-21″ brim
Abbreviations
- ch – chain
- sts – stitches
- ss – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- blo – back loop only
Hat Instructions
Create a Magic Loop and sc 6 into said loop (6 sts)
From here on out you will be working in the back loop only. Also, you do not have to use a stitch marker, but it helps mark the beginning of each row if you do not want to count as high.
Row 1: Join by working 2 sc in each stitch (12 sts)
Row 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (18 sts)
Row 3: *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (24 sts)
Row 4: *3 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (30 sts)
Row 5: *4 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (36 sts)
Row 6: *5 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (42 sts)
Row 7: *6 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (48 sts)
Row 8: *7 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (54 sts)
Row 9: *8 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (60 sts)
Row 10: *9 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (66 sts)
Row 11: *10 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around (72 sts)
You should have approximately 3.5 inches from the center of the hat to the current brim. If not, make additional rows and continue to do an increase of 6 stitches for each row.
At this point you do not need to mark the beginning of the rounds; continue to sc in the blo for approximately 4 ½ inches. (This measurement is from the outer edge of the crown and thus does not count the previous 3 ½ inches.) Once you have reached 4 ½ inches, or desired length, start to ss in the blo for approximately an inch. This will be the brim of the hat. Fasten off and weave in the ends!

What size is the completed hat? Adult or child? Thanks.

Hi, Jane.
The hat fits a 21″ head. I believe this to be a woman’s small or a teen size. It is easy to up-size by using a larger hook or doing another row or two of sc increases. For example: row 11 says to do *10 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around for 72 stitches. If you would like to make a larger hat simply continue to do an increase of 6 stitches for each row. (*11 sc, 2 sc in next stitch; repeat from * around for 78 stitches and so on)
Let me know if you have any other questions on the sizing.

Your pattern says to sc in the back loops, that is incorrect. You need to sc in the front loops to make the pattern look like it does. Thank You for the pattern I really enjoy it. Please post more patterns for us to enjoy.
